Grades & Hardening

4140 / 4340 quench-and-tempered for through-hardened gears; 8620 case-carburized to the tooth-flank hardness stated on your drawing; nitriding-grade alloy steels for distortion-sensitive applications.

Sizes

Pinions through to large bull gears at large pitch diameters. Single-piece forged or rolled-ring construction.

Quality

Cut teeth are produced to the quality grade named on your drawing; spur, helical, double-helical and bevel cuts are available, with a dimensional inspection report on delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Forged (rolled-ring) bull gears offer higher tooth-root fatigue strength and are preferred for primary drives. Cast gears remain viable for low-speed, low-stress secondary applications.

Tooth cutting — hobbing, shaping and grinding — plus case-carburizing or nitriding is coordinated through our partner gear shops to your specification.
