Forging / Closed-Die Forging

Closed-Die Forging Services

Closed-die (impression-die) forging shapes heated billets inside a contoured die pair to produce near-net-shape parts in high volumes. Monmet supplies closed-die forgings across a wide range of weights for gears, levers, yokes, flanges and structural fittings.

Closed-Die Forging

When Closed-Die Wins

Closed-die delivers tight dimensional repeatability, minimal flash and excellent mechanical properties on repeat production of identical parts. Tooling amortizes over the run, so per-part cost drops against casting or machining from bar.

Typical Products

Spur and bevel gear blanks, crankshafts, connecting rods, U-bolts, flanges and drive-train fittings.

Material Utilization

Closed-die forming places metal only where the part needs it, so far less stock is cut away than when machining from bar. Flash is trimmed, collected and recycled.

Frequently Asked Questions

For one-off and small-batch work the die cost rarely amortizes — open-die forging or casting is usually the better route. Send the drawing and quantity and we will quote both.

Yes. Monmet coordinates finish machining, heat treatment and surface treatments to deliver ready-to-assemble parts.
