Wear-Resistant Casting Alloys & How to Specify Them

This is the metallurgy page: how each abrasion-resistant casting alloy behaves and when to specify it. High-chrome white irons, nickel-chromium white irons, manganese steel and chrome-moly steels — all common industry choices for this service — each answer a different abrasion mode: gouging, sliding, impact or slurry. Wear-Resistant Castings

Match Alloy to Abrasion Mode

Gouging impact → manganese steel. Sliding abrasion → high-chrome white iron. Mixed impact/abrasion → chrome-moly steel. Slurry erosion → nickel-chromium white iron or high-chrome.

Mill & Crusher Components

Ball-mill shell plates, jaw and cone crusher mantles, hammer-mill hammers, impactor blow bars, pump volutes and pipe spools.

Monmet's metallurgists review wear-rate data and recommend grade upgrades or geometry changes to extend campaign life.

Frequently Asked Questions

In sliding abrasion, high-chrome grades are generally understood to outlast nickel-chromium white irons; the gap depends on the ore, impact level and section thickness, so we review both against your duty.

Manganese steel and chrome-moly steels are weldable for in-service repair. White irons (nickel-chromium and high-chrome) are not weldable and must be replaced.
