Casting / Sand Casting

The Industrial Sand Casting Process

Sand casting is the most versatile molding process for complex steel and iron components. This page covers how it works — green sand, no-bake and resin-bonded systems, pattern equipment, tolerance classes and finish — and how molding choice is matched to geometry and alloy. Sand Casting

Process Overview

Sand casting uses a sand-and-binder mold packed around a reusable pattern. Once the molten metal solidifies, the mold is broken out to release the casting. The process supports near-net-shape geometries, internal cavities via cores, and weights ranging from small components to very large single-piece castings in a single pour.

Alloys & Capabilities

Monmet sand casts the full carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, gray and ductile iron, as well as bronze and copper-based families. Each alloy is matched to a sand system — green sand for high-volume small parts, no-bake for dimensional stability on large work, and resin-bonded for complex cored geometries.

Quality & Inspection

Every sand casting is supplied with the material certification, dimensional inspection and testing your drawing or purchase order calls for. Heat treatment, rough machining and finish machining are coordinated through our partner shops to deliver ready-to-install components.

Frequently Asked Questions

Monmet sand casts steel and iron components from small parts to very large single pieces, and bronze or copper-based alloys across a wide range of tonnages.

No-bake (chemically-bonded) sand is preferred for large industrial castings because it delivers excellent dimensional stability and surface finish at high tonnages.

Yes. Monmet delivers sand castings as-cast, rough machined or fully finish machined to drawing.
