Gyratory Crusher Spider Casting — Start to Finish
A complete replacement spider casting for a gyratory crusher, produced through Monmet's network of foundries and machine shops and followed from pattern work to the crate on the shop floor. Every stage below is from this one project.
Every stage of the build
Pattern build
The timber pattern is built and modified on the moulding floor before any metal is poured. Pattern accuracy sets the dimensional accuracy of the finished casting.
Pattern modification
A pattern segment is reworked and sealed for the arm profile. Working from an existing pattern keeps lead time and tooling cost down on repeat components.
Shakeout
The casting is broken out of the mould after solidification and controlled cooling, still covered in bonded sand and gating.
Cleaning and grinding
Gating, risers and residual sand are removed, and the casting is inspected before the surfaces are dressed back to the drawing profile.
Final cleaning and grinding
Final dressing of the rim and arms ahead of machining.
Finish machining
Mounting faces, the bore and the bolt pattern are finish machined to the tolerances stated on the drawing.
Bushing installation
The bushing is shrink-fitted into the machined bore, then checked for fit and concentricity before assembly is signed off.
Primer coat
Surfaces are prepared and primed to the paint system called for on the order, with machined faces masked and protected.
Finish paint
The finished casting after top coat — dimensionally inspected, documented and ready for the final release inspection.
Packed for shipment
Crated on a purpose-built timber base with machined surfaces wrapped, ready for heavy-lift handling and ocean freight.
