A drop-in gear drive is a new gearbox dimensioned from the unit being removed rather than picked from a catalogue. It matches the base bolt pattern, shaft centre heights, shaft extensions, rotation and ratio, so it installs without structural work or realignment of the driven machine.
Why plants specify them
A catalogue substitution rarely matches the old footprint, so the base has to be modified, the coupling changed and the driven machine realigned. A drop-in unit removes that work from the shutdown.
What we need to quote one
The base bolt pattern, shaft centre heights, input and output shaft diameters and extensions, rotation, ratio and the driven application. If no drawing survives, the installed unit is measured in place or after removal.
Supplied with the rest of the train
The drive can be quoted together with its coupling, pinion, bushings and bearings so the whole power transmission train changes out in one shutdown.
