What is power transmission in heavy industrial plant?
Quick answer
Power transmission is the set of components carrying torque from the drive motor to the driven machine: the gearbox, the couplings on each side of it, the pinion and girth gear, and the shafts, bushings and bearings that support them. Monmet supplies replacement parts across that whole train.
The parts of a drive train
A motor turns a gearbox, which reduces speed and multiplies torque. Couplings connect the motor to the gearbox and the gearbox to the driven shaft. On a kiln or mill, the output pinion meshes with a girth gear wrapped around the shell. Shafts, bronze bushings and bearings carry the loads throughout.
Why it is bought as a system
Wear in one element loads the next. A worn pinion accelerates girth gear wear; a misaligned coupling shortens gearbox bearing life. Replacing a single part without checking the rest of the train usually repeats the failure.
How replacements are made
Monmet manufactures drive components to your drawing or reverse-engineers them from the worn part, then finish-machines them for installation — so an obsolete drive can be kept in service without OEM spares.
