Complete Gearbox Overhaul and Repair
Monmet performs complete gearbox overhaul and repair on the reducers driving kilns, mills, conveyors and crushers. The unit is stripped, inspected and rebuilt with new gears, pinions, shafts, bushings and bearings — manufactured through our own network so the rebuild is not held hostage by OEM parts availability.
Quick answer
Gearbox overhaul and repair means stripping the reducer, inspecting every gear, shaft and bearing, replacing what is worn, and reassembling to the original tolerances. Monmet manufactures the replacement gears, pinions and shafts as part of the same job rather than waiting on OEM spares.
Teardown and Inspection
The gearbox is disassembled and every element examined — gear tooth condition and contact pattern, shaft journals, bearing housings, seals and the housing itself. You receive a findings report with photographs before repair work is authorised.
Replacement Components
Worn gears, pinions, shafts, bronze bushings and bearings are manufactured through our foundry, forge and gear shop network to the measured data or the original drawing, then finish-machined for assembly.
Reassembly and Test
The unit is rebuilt to the original clearances and backlash, with new seals and fasteners. Documentation is supplied under Monmet's ISO 9001:2015 quality system.
When to Overhaul, When to Replace
If the housing and shafts are sound, an overhaul is normally the shorter and cheaper route. Where the housing is cracked, the ratio no longer suits the duty, or the OEM has discontinued the model, a drop-in gearbox built to the same mounting footprint is usually the better answer.
Gear Cutting and Materials
Gear cutting is done in our network's own gear shops, which cuts turn-around time on a rebuild. We work on all brands and makes of gearing, and gears can be produced in steel, high or low alloy steel, or ductile iron where the application suits it.
