Bronze Bushings for Heavy Industrial Equipment

Bronze bushings are the replaceable bearing surface between a rotating shaft and its housing — crushers, mills, kilns, converters and rolling mill equipment all run on them. Monmet supplies bronze bushings centrifugally or continuously cast through our worldwide network of foundries and workshops, to your drawing or reverse-engineered from a worn sample, delivered cast, rough machined or finished machined.

Quick answer

A bronze bushing is a replaceable cylindrical bearing liner that supports a rotating shaft and absorbs wear so the shaft and housing do not. Monmet supplies centrifugally and continuously cast bronze bushings in tin, leaded, manganese, aluminum and nickel aluminum bronzes, to your drawing or from a worn sample.

Bronze Bushings

Centrifugally cast bushings

Centrifugal casting is the process most often associated with bronze bushings: the spinning mould drives the metal against the wall, producing a dense, sound structure well suited to bearing surfaces. Monmet supplies centrifugally cast bushings in tin bronzes, leaded bronzes, manganese bronzes, aluminum bronzes, nickel aluminum bronzes, brasses and copper — from small bushings to very large single-piece castings on both vertical and horizontal machines.

Continuously cast bushings and bar

For smaller and medium sizes, continuously cast bronze rounds and tubes are supplied in standard lengths or cut to size — rounds, tubes, squares and rectangles across a wide range of dimensions. Continuous bar is a practical way to hold stock for maintenance machining of bushings and liners.

Alloys Monmet supplies

Tin bronzes (the traditional bearing bronzes), leaded bronzes, manganese bronzes, aluminum bronzes and nickel aluminum bronze, as well as silicon bronze, brasses and copper. The alloy is always the grade stated on your drawing or purchase order.

What Monmet needs to quote

The equipment and position the bushing serves, a drawing or a worn sample, the alloy grade and hardness stated on your purchase order, lubrication grooves or other features, and whether you want the part cast, rough machined or finished machined ready to install. If no drawing exists, we reverse-engineer the bushing and issue a drawing for your approval before manufacture.

Bronze bushings supplied by Monmet

  1. Rough cast bushing

A centrifugally cast bronze bushing blank, strapped and ready for the machine shop. Bushings can be supplied as-cast when you prefer to machine them in your own workshop.

  2. Finish machined bushings

A pair of large bronze bushings finish machined and packed for delivery — bearing surfaces, grooves and fits completed to the drawing, ready to install.

  3. Machined bearing surface

The bored and finished bearing surface of a bronze bushing. Centrifugal casting gives the dense, sound structure that bearing surfaces demand.

  4. Bronze thrust ring

A large bronze thrust ring machined to size. Rings, washers and bushings are supplied in the bronze grade stated on your drawing or purchase order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tin bronzes are the traditional bearing bronzes; leaded bronzes improve machinability, manganese and aluminum bronzes raise strength. We supply the grade stated on your drawing or purchase order — if you are unsure, send the application details and our team will confirm the alloy.

Yes — we reverse-engineer the bushing from a worn or new sample and produce a drawing for your approval before manufacture.

Centrifugally cast bushings range from small components to very large single-piece castings on both vertical and horizontal machines. Continuously cast bronze rounds and tubes are available across a wide range of diameters.

Yes — bushings are supplied cast, rough machined or finished machined with the lubrication grooves and features shown on your drawing, ready to install.
